So I thought I’d start off my first post with my current financial status. It’s gonna hurt to air my “dirty laundry” out there to the world, but maybe it’ll teach me some accountability. Ugh.
- I am in credit card debt, $682.57 to be exact.
- In my freshman year of college, I took out $5,500 in student loans.
- This is going to hurt to say, (wince) but I only have $4.37 in my Bank of America student checking account and only $4.37 in my savings. OUCH.
Now you may be scratching your head and asking yourself, how did this girl wrack up such a poor, poor report card in just one year? I’ll tell you how. I was being irresponsible with my money! In high school, I had no real idea of money or how to save. I come from a lower-middle class family, but my parents still managed to give me a steady allowance. Now, it wasn’t a lot but still, I didn’t have to work too hard for my money. The only time I ever worked was during the summer and I still didn’t save money.
I have to admit, I’m a compulsive spender. As soon as money gets into my hands, I want to spend it. I am in credit card debt because I bought things like a pretty acoustic guitar, lessons, a bass guitar for my boyfriend’s birthday, plus miscellaneous spending while going out.
I have a couple of goals for the upcoming year to help me get back on track again, but I’ll save that for my next post.
